2022-05-08: How do you make a statue of an elephant?

Updated: Aug 19, 2025

I started researching the J6 timelines. There are a bunch of them, and they don't agree.

Writing a musical today is not really like sitting down in a typewriter and plunking on keys. It's more like orchestration. I'm pulling in resources from all over the Internet,

As always, when you're pulling in resources from the internet, you have to evaluate them for truthfulness, bias, completeness.

Those timelines provide the structure of my story. But how do I carve a musical out of all that?

That makes me think of the old joke:

How do you make a statue of an elephant?

Take a really big block of stone and carve away everything that doesn't look like an elephant.

So, starting with the morass of timelines, which parts look like they could be the plot of an off-Broadway musical?

And, crucially, when does the story start, and when does it end?

I’ll figure these things out as I go. And, as always, my first draft will be wrong. The magic happens in the editing.
